About Kerry Lawson
Kerry Lawson is a highly respected yoga teacher, trainer, and wellness educator whose lifelong journey in yoga began in the 1960s under the guidance of her mother, a teacher rooted in the traditional Krishnamacharya lineage. Immersed from childhood in the full spectrum of yoga — including philosophy, meditation, pranayama, mantra, Ayurveda, and asana — Kerry developed a deep understanding of yoga as a path toward balance, healing, and inner peace.
With over 30 years of professional training and experience, Kerry holds RYT1000 certification and has studied extensively in India with masters and teachers of the Krishnamacharya and Sivananda traditions. Her work integrates therapeutic, trauma-sensitive, and traditional approaches to yoga, informed by advanced studies with internationally recognized teachers including Dr. Timothy McCall and David Emerson.
Since 2003, Kerry has dedicated much of her work to communities across the Canadian Arctic, teaching in schools, addiction recovery facilities, prisons, and Elder centres. She developed the impactful “Building Resiliency for Youth through Yoga” program for northern communities and has led yoga teacher trainings, retreats, and workshops throughout Canada and internationally. Kerry’s compassionate teaching style and decades of experience continue to inspire personal transformation, resilience, and wellbeing in students of all ages.
Kerry was also selected as one of only seven yoga teachers featured in the international documentary film Planet Yoga.
At the heart of Kerry’s work is her spiritual residential ashram — a peaceful and welcoming space where people can step away from the pressures of daily life and reconnect with themselves through yoga, meditation, and community living. Guests may attend classes, courses, retreats, and special events either as day participants or by staying in residence. The ashram operates as a shared spiritual home rather than a commercial retreat centre; there is no staff, and everyone contributes as family through shared meals, clean-up, and the daily care of the household. Accommodation options include private queen rooms, shared double rooms, as well as tenting and trailer spaces. Most events include nourishing vegetarian meals, with dairy-free and gluten-free options available, creating a supportive environment for rest, healing, study, and spiritual practice.
